Response to the "Woman at the Wall"

The feelings I got from this poem were a sunken stomach and a heart in my throat. I cant imagine how the "Woman" is feeling. To loose a family member when the soldier most likely was not a volenteer in the war efforts. In the second part she talked about how she prayed to go to let him come back and make everything right again was probably the worst for me to hear. Being a soldier I helpped send over ten soldiers home in boxes and this puts it in more perspective for me. I viewed them as friends, co-worker not brothers sister mothers fathers.

I had a friend who lost his brother in the war. It can be very traumitizing trying to come to a realization of what happened.

i agree, both brice and jenna. but jenna, i think even though the friends you lost were not family, i still think the loss is huge, because your fellow soldiers are just LIKE family, right? i mean, you are leaning on each other in a war situation even stronger than some real siblings do. sorry to hear about these deaths. may they rest in peace.

If they're family or co-workers or friends in combat.Coming to the realization of a loved one being dead is hard to do. I agree with Brice most people would be in denial at first. Thats how I think the woman on the wall felt.

true they we are all like one big family but i didnt really mean it like that... when your in a war zone you do depend on people, like a sister depends on an older brother, i do consider them my friends and family but in a war zone they are first a soldier second my buddy/family/friend to the ones around them and third a parent/husband/wife/etc. The duties of everyday life back home are put last next to the job and the ones you have to protect. i hope that makes what i was saying a little more clear, if not I guess its one of those things that cant really be explained.

The poem has a lot of meaning to some people, my cousin had fought over seas. He made it home safely but i couldnt imagine how I would have felt if he came home in a casket.
