The chapter that engaged me the most was the one called "stockings". It was a short chapter but i felt like it had a big point to it. It was the chapter talking about Henry dobbins wearing his girlfriends stockings around his neck like a good luck charm. The themes that are important to me in this chapter are how some simple object can make you feel protected in a place where in reality nothing can protect you.
The book makes me hate war, both in the present and past. There are so many examples in the book about how men that do not even like the issue they are fighting for are having to die for that issue. Also i think war makes some people very depressed, like the man who hanged himself in the book after the war because he felt like he had nothing to do.

I agree, the fact that the girl ended up dumping him had no effect on his obsession with the stockings. The stockings just reminded him of home, in a place where comfort was hard to find.
The stockings were such a cool example of how an object can hold so much meaning to someone, and motivate them tremendously. This simple pair of stockings motivated Dobbins to get through something as signifigant as a war, because it brought comfort, and memories, of his girlfriend that he loved.
I thought that Dobbin's stockings were a great example of a good luck charm. Everyone has their rituals, whether you play a sport, an instrument or even act in a play. There are just small things that get you pumped up for the challenge ahead. It can make you think less about the negatives and more about the positives. It can sometimes be the difference between facing a fight head on or freezing and getting yourself into trouble.
I really liked this chapter as well. I felt like this little meaningless object motivated him to keep going. It reminded him that there was someone very important and close to his heart waiting for him to make it through.
I really like this chapter because i seen so many people do as such a simple thing like Henry did when he was at war. Even thought alot of people think that small object cant be nothing when you see it in front of you, but it can be huge thing to the person that is warrig it or hold it for members. His girlfriend's stocking reminded him how back home falt like.
