Exploration 8 "That Lean and Hungry Look"

In the short story, "That Lean and Hungry Look", Suzanne Britt compares fat people with thin people. The author really criticizes thin people. Some of the things she says gives thin people the feeling of being torn. For example, Britt states in her story, "Thin people turn surly, mean and hard at a young age because they never learn the value of a hot fudge sundae for easing tension." Although this is funny, if somebody who is thin that reads this, they may have the feeling of being torn.

Throughout this short story, Suzanne Britt really shows how fat people are more laid back and sincere than thin people. She shows this at the end of the story by ending with, "Fat people have plenty of room. Fat people will take you in." I think this quote is important because it helps show what Suzanne thinks about fat people.

I enjoyed the second quote that you chose, it does show how the author feels about fat people. Do you think she is friends with a lot of obese people and shared their feelings? Also, is Suzanne Britt obese herself?

I think she might have wrote this becuase she's confused as to what she find acceptable and what society does. She wants to somehow fit in her own way.

I as well liked the second quote that you put in here. I think she is being realistic in a sense that she knows how the world is and not everyone is thin and that if your not thin its not the end of the world.

Personally I am torn on how to interperate this essay. I dont understand exactly what she is wanting us to feel. Does she want us to feel bad for them, or to respect them more? I do like your quote but it is not true. everyone knows how to have fun and ease tentions in their own way.
